SAFE PLACE
The first book of the trilogy
An Intriguing, thought-provoking, sometime harrowing yet uplifting tale of love, strength and belonging, that you won`t be able to put down!
This intriguing family saga begins when an unexpected friendship forms between a delivery driver(Rory) and an older woman (Rhona). She reminds him of his grandma and after opening up to her, she helps him come to terms with his past.
The reader is transported back through Rhona`s life, her strange, abusive husband, unexpected affair with a married man (Erick, an artist leading an unconventional life) and escape to a remote cottage in the West of Ireland, where she gives birth, but has to give her baby away. Unable to stay there, she flees to North Cornwall, thinking she may never see her lover or her baby again.
She meets and falls in love with a handsome Welshman, but her life spirals out of control after a double tragedy. Following her friend`s advice, she goes off to a Keralan retreat.
Meanwhile, Erick`s life has also started to unravel. With his dreams of living self sufficiently in Ireland with his family now shattered, he struggles on alone, often thinking of Rhona and the baby they had to give away.
He eventually returns to the UK, and unexpectedly sees Rhona with her new man and they look very much in love. Trying to forget her, he embarks on a wild, unpredictable relationship with a much younger woman( Zena) but ends up alone again.
Rory lodges with Rhona after a bout of illness and confesses something shocking about his past.
After several strange twists of fate, the three main characters` paths become increasingly entwined, Rory uncovers an astonishing family secret, that changes the course of their lives forever.

Rhona
The main protagonist
As a child, Rhona lived a very protected life in a tranquil coastal town in East Devon. Eager to leave school she instead, found herself caring for her two younger half-brothers and assisting her mother in the family shoe shop.
Seeking an escape, she meets and marries Harold, only to discover that life with him is even worse.
Rory
Rory delivers a parcel to Rhona and an unexpected friendship develops....
Rory was raised in the far West of Ireland and, following his mother's death, was lovingly cared for by his grandmother. However, after her passing, his life spiralled into chaos, and he made poor choices, some of which were truly disastrous.
Erick
Erick, too, was raised in the same tranquil seaside town as Rhona, yet their lives never intersected because he was sent away to boarding school when he was quite young.
Erick loathed boarding school until he uncovered his passion for art, which led him to leave and settle in Belfast where he found work in an Art College, during "The Troubles," and life there was not easy. But it was here, he encountered the enigmatic Moira, who eventually became his wife.
Journeying along Ireland's rugged West coast during one long summer holiday, Erick grew very fond of the region and its inhabitants, and when the opportunity arose to construct a house on a piece of land, he seized it without hesitation. Moira, however, was less keen on the idea, and things did not go quite as planned.....

Roisin

Sister Mary
Sister Mary manages the Mother and Baby Home with an iron hand, instilling fear in all the girls residing there.

William
William is one of the central characters.
He grows up believing Evelyn is his mother, but an urgent summons to Shauna's deathbed reveals the truth, but confuses him.
Unaware of the importance of what she had said, he only gains clarity when the public Inquiry into the Mother and Baby Home begins, and everything falls into place.
About the author
B. Delamere is in her late fifties and currently lives by the sea in Swanage, Dorset. She loves wandering the coastal paths nearby and set some of the sequel, in a nearby village.
B. Delamere spent the majority of her childhood summer holidays in the far West of Ireland with her uncle, whose cottage served as a fascinating setting for both of her books. However, it was the conversations with her late mother before she passed away, learning more about her family history, the characters, and the stories, that provided the greatest inspiration for her saga, which spans over forty years.
Parts of the books also take place in the rugged terrain of North Cornwall, where she resided for more than a decade, and the rest in the coastal region of East Devon, where both she and her mother were raised, albeit in very different circumstances.
